Chaos has erupted in the Weija Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra region after some National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters stormed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) office.
The angry supporters are demanding a redeclaration of the parliamentary results.
The EC has officially declared the New Patriotic Party(NPP) candidate, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, as the MP-elect in the just-ended election.
Mr Shaib polled 32,608 votes, defeating the NDC’s Felix Odartey Lamptey who garnered 30,460 votes.
However, the NDC supporters are claiming Jerry did not win on fair grounds, questioning the basis for the declaration.
In a video shared on X by Accra-based ChannelOne TV, the supporters were heard shouting they were fighting for their rights despite attempts by the Police to maintain calm.
They vowed to resist any intimidation.
