My victory was a divine intervention – Mahama

-

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has expressed amazement at the margin of his victory in the 2024 presidential election, crediting it to divine intervention.

Mahama secured 56.55 percent of the total valid votes cast, outperforming his primary challenger, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.61 percent of the votes.

This unexpected victory marks a major milestone for his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which also won a majority in Parliament, securing over 170 seats, including key constituencies traditionally held by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This accomplishment further strengthens Mahama’s mandate as he prepares to return to the presidency.

During a courtesy call from the leadership of the Assemblies of God Church, led by Reverend Stephen Wengam, Mahama acknowledged the church’s prayers and support throughout the election process.

“In every step I’ve taken, I know the church has supported me with prayer, especially in the lead-up to this election. I am aware of the active prayer networks that prayed for our success, and this victory is not by our own power. While I was confident we would win, the scale of this victory can only be attributed to God’s hand. This is one of the greatest endorsements any president in Ghana has received,” Mahama said.

He emphasized the importance of continued prayer, stating, “This is the time when we need prayers even more, as Ghanaians’ expectations will be higher, and the country faces a severe economic crisis. It will take a lot of hard work to overcome this.”

Mahama urged the church to continue praying for the country and assured them of his support, pledging that his administration would remain advocates and ambassadors for the church.
