NDC govt will ensure Black Stars qualify for 2026 World Cup – Adams Abdul-Salam

The Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, Adams Abdul-Salam, has pledged that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will prioritize ensuring the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His assurance comes in the wake of the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, which saw John Dramani Mahama declared president-elect.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Abdul-Salam acknowledged the team’s recent struggles, including their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after finishing last in Group F with only three points.

However, he expressed confidence in the new administration’s commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s national football team.

“President-elect, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he said.

“We did not qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament but will work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by providing them with the needed logistics to ensure the team gets qualification. It is our biggest objective to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the tournament.”

The Black Stars currently hold second place in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, tied on nine points with Comoros. They are set to continue their campaign in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar.

Abdul-Salam also reassured constituents in New Edubiase that the completion of the long-delayed New Edubiase Sports Stadium will be a priority under the Mahama-led government.

“During the campaign, John Mahama came to my constituency and tabled before him four demands and one key thing is the New Edubiase Sports Stadium. The previous NDC administration started but the NPP deliberately did not complete it but myself together with John Mahama to ensure the stadium will be completed.”
