The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared former President John Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election without the results from nine constituencies.
According to Jean Mensa, EC officials are yet to receive results from these constituencies.
Speaking at a press conference, she said that after collating results nationally, her outfit believes the results from the outstanding constituencies will not affect the general outcome.
“Ghanaians have spoken and they expressed their choice at the polls. As a Commission, we will uphold that. We have not been able to receive results from 9 constituencies but even if the results were added to that of the second candidate, it will not change anything,” she stated.
His close contender, the New Patriotic Party’s(NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, comprising 41.61%.
The EC Chairperson detailed the total registered voters was 18,774,159 with 11, 430, 531 votes cast.
However, the total valid votes was 11,191,422 with 239,109 rejected ballots.
The voter turnout she noted was 60.9%.
Mrs Mensa assured the Commission will continue to update Ghanaians once the outstanding results are received.
