Election 2024: We apologise to our people for failing them – Vincent Assafuah [Listen]

-

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has called for sober reflection and deeper engagement with constituents following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) lose in the December 7 elections.

Speaking on Adom TV, he admitted that the party had failed to meet the expectations of its supporters, leading to significant losses, including several strongholds.

“We probably failed our people, and they showed their displeasure toward us,” he said. “It is clear that we must listen to our people, reflect on the things we did wrong, and work to address them.”

Mr. Assafuah acknowledged that the election results serve as a wake-up call for the party to reconnect with its base.

In his view, it is important to apologise to constituents and actively engage them to rebuild trust.

“We apologize to our people and assure them that we will engage with them to address their concerns. This is the only way we can regain their confidence and bring our party back to its rightful position” he said.

Reflecting on the Ashanti Region’s status as the party’s traditional stronghold, Mr. Assafuah stressed the urgency of regaining lost seats.

“The Ashanti Region remains our strong base. Losing trust there calls for serious introspection and action. We need to ensure these traditional seats return to the NPP.”

He also called on the party’s leadership to work together to resolve internal issues and unify efforts toward recovery.

“It is within our means to ensure that the party stands tall again. Every MP and parliamentary candidate must engage with their people, thank them, and listen to their concerns to find a way forward.”

Mr. Assafuah expressed hope for the NPP’s revival, despite the challenges posed by the NDC’s gains in parliament.

“With NDCs overwhelming majority in parliament, they must ensure they must act in the best interest of the people. I hope the NDC will do so, and we must work tirelessly to win back the trust of our supporters.”

He concluded by urging party stalwarts to support the rebuilding process.

“We must address our issues internally, come back stronger, and ensure our party regains its standing. The work starts now,” he said.
