2024 polls: Ablekuma North results disputed, EC moves to regional office

-

Tensions remain high in Ablekuma North after disruptions at the collation center forced Electoral Commission (EC) officials to relocate to the regional office to re-collate disputed results.

The chaos erupted when agitated supporters of the NPP and NDC stormed the collation room, breaking parts of the building’s burglar-proof security, scattering pink sheets, and causing journalists and observers to flee.

The disruptions were sparked by allegations from party agents that 18 pink sheets were missing during the presidential results collation.

The process was temporarily halted as the returning officer summoned candidates and party representatives to review the contested sheets.

The parliamentary candidates, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the NPP and Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC, are yet to meet EC officials at the regional office.

Other constituencies, including Okaikoi Central and Dome-Kwabenya, have also brought their issues to the regional office as the EC works to resolve the disputes and restore order.
