After three determined attempts, actress-turned-politician, Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has finally won the Tema Central parliamentary seat.
This victory is the first for the NDC in over 32 years, as both the presidential and parliamentary contests in Tema Central swung in favour of the party, breaking the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) long-standing hold on the constituency.
Ebi Bright’s victory, however, was not without tension.
Confusion erupted at the Tema Central Royal School JHS polling station when residents resisted Electoral Commission officials’ attempt to transport a ballot box in a taxi without security supervision.
The situation was further aggravated by a sudden power outage during the counting process which raised suspicions.
In her victory speech, Ebi Bright expressed gratitude to her supporters and vowed to restore the glory of Tema Central alongside her party.
“This is a new dawn for Tema Central. Together, we will bring the development and leadership this constituency deserves,” she affirmed.
Her victory cements the NDC’s growing momentum in traditionally NPP-dominated areas, signaling a significant political shift in the region.
