NDC must call their supporters to order – Richard Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has warned that the integrity of this year’s elections could be compromised if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership does not rein in its supporters.

In a post on X, Ahiagbah stated that NDC supporters are determined to disrupt the work of the Electoral Commission (EC).

He warned that if the NDC leadership fails to control these actions, the NPP will also respond. “The NDC must call its members, who are determined to overrun the Electoral Commission, to order, lest they tarnish the credibility of the 2024 elections and their historic victory,” he said.

Mr. Ahiagbah further alleged that NDC supporters have been assaulting some NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) who have won in their constituencies. He assured the MPs-elect that they should not fear these attacks, as the party will provide full support to defend them.

“To the NPP parliamentary candidates who are being attacked, harassed, and intimidated by overzealous NDC supporters, stand firm, knowing that the party has your back,” he stated. He concluded, “We are the New Patriotic Party—down but not out. We shall rise again. Kukrudu!!!”

Meanwhile, during a press conference on Sunday, December 8, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa acknowledged the disruptions caused by party supporters from various political parties, affecting collation activities in some regions.

Reports indicate that NDC supporters disrupted the electoral process in Dome Kwabenya, Greater Accra, and Kasoa, Central Region. In the Damongo constituency, NDC supporters allegedly set fire to the District EC office, destroying election materials.

Mensa urged the public to remain patient as the EC works to finalize and announce the complete election results.
