Chaos erupts at Ablekuma West collation centre as residents clash with security and EC

-

Tensions boiled over at the Ablekuma West collation centre in the Greater Accra region on Saturday, December 7, following the close of voting in Ghana’s general elections.

The incident began when a group of individuals attempted to force their way into the centre to observe the collation process, sparking a standoff with security personnel and Electoral Commission officials.

Police officers were seen bracing against the gate to keep the crowd out, while frustrated residents hurled objects over the barricade.

Amid the commotion, ballot boxes were hastily passed over the gate, with additional boxes appearing to be transported in the same manner.

The unrest disrupted the typically orderly process of concluding elections in the constituency, prompting authorities to focus on de-escalating tensions.

Security analyst Prof. Kwesi Aning, speaking on JoyNews, called for increased cooperation and additional security deployment to ensure the collation process proceeds smoothly and without further disruption.
