Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of openly engaging in vote buying during election day, a practice he says undermines the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
Speaking to the press after casting his vote, Mr. Iddrisu condemned the use of money as an inducement to sway voters, labeling it a violation of electoral laws and a disgraceful affront to the democratic process.
“It is unacceptable that under the NPP, vote buying has become normalized on election day. This is a clear case of inducement, which is a criminal act under electoral laws,” he stated.
The former Minority Leader referenced an incident in Tamale where NPP supporters were reportedly chased away for allegedly distributing money to voters at a polling station, calling the act “shameful” and “unacceptable.”
Mr. Iddrisu urged stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and called for immediate action to prevent such occurrences in future elections.
