Women in Philanthropy Ghana holds 2024 conference [Photos]

The Women in Philanthropy Ghana (WiP) has successfully held the second edition of its annual conference.

The event occurred on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Accra City Hotel.

Held under the theme, Harnessing Collective Strength: Women Leading Transformative Philanthropy, the event was part of a week-long celebration to commemorate the Ghana Philanthropy Week.

The Conference brought together relevant stakeholders, including donors, funders, and community changemakers, among others.

It provided the platform for extensive discussions on cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder partnerships that women philanthropy institutions can take advantage of their deepen their impact on society.

The conference also highlighted the success stories of philanthropic and social enterprise projects and initiatives over the years while touching on systematic barriers and how they can be eliminated.

The panelists emphasised ways in which volunteerism can help address social needs and add to efforts to promote social development.

It was established at the conference that philanthropy was not the obligation of only people with power and money but every individual could find ways to show care for those in need.

For the part of the Co-founder of WiP-Ghana, Jodie Hanson-Nortey, she touted the 2024 celebration as a mega and historic milestone for the organisation.

Acknowledging the challenges women-led organisations are faced with in Ghana, Madam Hanson-Nortey emphasised that they should not be a breaking point.

Instead, the challenges should be a motivation to encourage women to create an inclusive and supportive environment to lead the change and showcase initiatives that promote a robust network.

In attendance were several women leaders in philanthropy who are driving change in various sectors of the economy, representatives from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection as well as the Centre for Strategic Philanthropy and Social Investment- Pentecost University (CESPSI-PU).

The speakers included; Afua Gyapomaa (Africa Women Development Foundation), Dr. Christian Tsekpoe (CESPSI-PU), Sr Dr Regina Opoku (OLA Sisters/WiP-Ghana), Ms Ivy Amy Lawson (Digital Transformation Hub Ltd), Angela Dwamena-Aboagye (Lawyer and Executive Director of The Ark Foundation Ghana) among others.
