Dumelo files complaint at OSP against Lydia Alhassan for food distribution

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has lodged a formal complaint at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

This follows allegations that Ms. Alhassan was seen distributing food to voters in a queue during the Special Voting exercise held on Monday.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, 3rd December, Mr. Dumelo stated that his complaint includes video evidence capturing various actions by Ms. Alhassan, which he claims contravene Ghana’s criminal and electoral laws.

He emphasized the importance of upholding electoral integrity and preventing any form of voter manipulation.

Mr. Dumelo also revealed that his team had provided the OSP with additional material information regarding alleged plans by Ms. Alhassan to unlawfully influence voters on a larger scale.

These concerns are particularly focused on the upcoming general election, scheduled for Saturday, 7th December 2024.

The NDC candidate underscored the significance of ensuring free and fair elections, urging the relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.

He called on the OSP to take swift action to prevent any further breaches that could undermine the democratic process in the constituency.

“The complaint entails video recordings of various actions by Ms. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, which we believe breach our criminal and electoral laws.”

“My team also provided material information on plots by Ms. Lydia Seyram Alhassan to unlawfully influence voters on a larger scale come Saturday, December 7, 2024, when the main election will be held.”
