Former Afigya Kwabere South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku, has emphasized the need to maintain peace in the Ashanti region during the upcoming December 7 polls.
Speaking at the Afigya Kwabere South Constituency, he urged the electorate to respect the electoral process and the laws of the nation.
“We’re not going to fight, we’re not going to insult each other. We’re going to exercise our kokromoti power (exercise our franchise),” Chairman Coka said.
He also reminded the audience that the Electoral Commission officers are their relatives, friends, husbands, and wives, and therefore deserve respect.
“Let’s give the needed respect to the regulations of the Electoral Commission officers at the various polling stations. They are our relatives, friends, husbands, and wives, so let’s respect them,” Chairman Coka added.
Chairman Coka’s call for peace comes at a critical time in Ghana’s electoral history as the country prepares for its 5th presidential election since the return to democratic multiparty politics in 1992.
The elections are expected to be highly competitive, with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) facing off against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
