Mahama reaffirms commitment to promoting Ghanaian festivals through traditional partnerships

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders to promote Ghanaian festivals as part of his vision for national development.

According to him, this initiative forms a key element of a broader plan to stimulate local economies, enhance cultural tourism, and highlight Ghana’s rich heritage on the global stage.

Speaking during a visit to the Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday, November 28, Mahama met with King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga Traditional Council as part of his Greater Accra regional tour ahead of the December 7 general elections.

He expressed gratitude for the warm and vibrant welcome extended by the Ga Mantse, chiefs, queen mothers, and other dignitaries at the palace.

In a Facebook post, Mahama emphasized the pivotal role traditional rulers play in Ghanaian society.

He underscored the significance of festivals not only as cultural expressions but also as platforms for economic growth in local communities.

Mahama pledged to work closely with chiefs and other traditional authorities to provide the necessary support and visibility for festivals to maximize their socio-economic impact.

“By working closely with traditional leaders, we can enhance the visibility and impact of our festivals and benefit our communities. As indicated in our 2024 #ResettingGhana Manifesto, we will increase the representation of traditional authorities within our decentralized structures. Their insights and contributions are invaluable in shaping policies that reflect our people’s needs and aspirations.

“I have always believed that empowering traditional leaders to play a more active role in governance can create a more inclusive and effective system that honors our cultural roots. I am committed to enhancing relations with our chiefs as we move forward. They are not only custodians of our traditions but also key stakeholders in our development agenda. I am excited about the possibilities ahead as we collaborate with all traditional authorities nationwide to uplift our communities,” he added.
