Asante Kotoko has announced Kwasi Appiah as the new Head of Sporting Affairs, marking a significant step in the club’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
Appiah, who also serves as head coach of the Sudanese national team, previously held the role of Technical Director within the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC).
His transition comes after the appointment of club legend Malik Jabir as the new Technical Director.
Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was part of the IMC, has been reassigned to focus exclusively on his role as head coach. Under the revised structure, both Jabir and Ogum will now report directly to Kwasi Appiah.
In a tweet on November 28, 2024, Asante Kotoko shared:
“Our Sporting Setup. #AKSC #Fabucensus #Kotoko4All” alongside an image of the new structure.
The appointment of Appiah follows his recent success in leading Sudan to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a remarkable victory over Ghana. This achievement came despite Sudan’s challenges amid a civil war and having to play home matches outside the country.
A former player and 1982 AFCON winner, Appiah is also set to resume his position as a Ghana Football Association Executive Council member. His suspension, linked to the Ghana-Sudan clash during the 2024 international window, has now been lifted.
In domestic action, Asante Kotoko recently ended a four-game winless streak with a victory over Aduana Stars. The team is set to face Future Stars in the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, December 1, at 15:00 GMT.
They will then prepare for a highly anticipated clash against Hearts of Oak in Matchday 13 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium.
