Resolve ongoing impasse before end of 8th Parliament – ACEPA urges MPs

-

The Africa Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) has called on senior Members of Parliament (MPs) to intervene and resolve the ongoing impasse in the House before the current session of the 8th Parliament concludes.

Dr. Rasheed Draman, Executive Director of ACEPA, urged MPs to comply with the court’s ruling regarding the issue and ensure their actions are in alignment with the legal decision.

This appeal follows a statement made by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who indicated that the House could not reconvene before the December elections.

His comments came in response to demands from the Majority Caucus for an emergency recall to address urgent government business.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Draman emphasized the importance of concluding the 8th Parliament’s term on a positive and constructive note, especially in contrast to the turbulence that marked its early sessions.

“Even if there is only a week left before this Parliament’s term ends, it is crucial for our senior members to step in and help end this session on a peaceful note, avoiding the chaotic conclusion that looms,” Dr. Draman said. “There is significant work to be done, and I urge our elders to act swiftly, bringing key stakeholders together to resolve this impasse.”
