Work is progressing on the $330 million Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT), popularly known as the Boankra Inland Port, located in the Ejisu municipality of the Ashanti region.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, disclosed that the first phase of the project is about 75% to 80% complete.
With the extent of work completed by the contractor, JUSTMOH Construction Limited, Mr. Asiamah expressed confidence that the project will be completed and commissioned by January 2025.
“The contractor is doing a good job, and I’m so proud that he is a local contractor. We had some financial issues, but we have been able to resolve that, and we expect that it will be completed by January 2025,” he said.
Giving a breakdown, the Minister explained that the first phase will include the buildings, fuel station, and other essential structures that make up the port.
He also expressed his excitement that President Akufo-Addo’s government was able to construct the port, which the previous Mahama administration could not complete.
The project, covering a total area of 413 acres, includes an inland clearance depot, customs-bonded and unbonded estates, commercial areas such as banks, offices, and trading facilities, vehicle parking, light industrial areas, and an administration block complex.
When completed, the Boankra Inland Port will provide services for importers and exporters in the central and northern parts of the country.
It will also serve as a major conduit for the efficient transportation of transit traffic to and from neighboring landlocked countries, including Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
