The former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has revealed that his party is not on the ballot sheet for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
According to the professor, he is unhappy because his “real party” is not on the ballot sheet.
In an exclusive interview at his residence in Accra, Professor Frimpong-Boateng alleged that there is division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). As a result, he no longer sees himself as a member of the party, despite the love he has had for it since childhood.
“The NPP is fragmented, disseminated, disunited, so there is no cohesion, and I really don’t feel that I am part of it. This is a party I love and have an emotional attachment to, dating back to the days of my grandfather, who was the Adontenhene of Toase. We’ve gone through a lot of things,” he stated.
He also mentioned that he will soon be celebrating his jubilee anniversary alongside his classmate in service to the public.
“Pretty soon, my classmates and I will be celebrating a 50th anniversary in public service, and we think we’ve done a lot. Yet, here I am, asked to present a report to fight environmental terrorism, and two members of my party have taken me to court,” he lamented.
However, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP he had known a few years ago as a party that believes in the rule of law, good governance, and the separation of powers, and does not belong to an individual.
He continued, saying that the party accords respect to the elders and leadership of the party and cares for its members, extending love and care to the next generation, advocating for hope to be restored within the party.
The former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology further expressed his frustration with issues of corruption within the party.
“The issue of corruption is something that worries me. If we cannot deal with it, maybe we will have time to talk about it. But this is the NPP that I am thinking about. This is not the NPP that former President Kufuor left us,” he added.
