Don’t appoint partisan election officers on Dec. 7 – Omane Boamah to EC

-

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the Electoral Commission (EC) against appointing partisan officers for the December 7 election.

In a post on Facebook, the Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, bemoaned that partisan appointments could undermine the credibility of the election results.

Dr. Boamah has therefore called on the EC to ensure a transparent process.

He noted that the NDC will closely monitor the selection of the officers and compare it with the list of delegates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This, he stated, will help them identify any partisan appointees overseeing the December 7 polls.

“Refreshing to note that the Electoral Commission Ghana is taking steps to stop election officials, including Presiding Officers, from passing on information to unnamed persons.

“We urge all election officials to be professional and non-partisan. EC, do not appoint partisan election officers,” the post read in part.

The NDC’s concerns follow the EC’s directive to its Regional Directors to release the names of election officers to political parties.

The memo, issued on November 24, stated that political parties were requesting the names of the officers to ensure they could communicate election results to them during the election process.
