Ghana football legend Abedi Pele has expressed concerns over the current state of football in the country.
The three-time Africa Footballer of the Year’s remarks come after the Black Stars’ disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team finished bottom of Group F with just three points and no wins.
With local football struggling to gain the necessary attention and support, Pele—who won the 1982 AFCON title with the Black Stars—believes that past generations cannot be compared to the current situation.
He emphasized that it’s time for the country to work together and focus on rebuilding the sport.
“I think time changes in all aspects, and we are talking about three decades,” Pele told the media, as reported by Panafricafootball.
“So whatever it is, we shouldn’t look back; we should just look forward, work hard, and achieve whatever we want to achieve.
“What it takes to be a great football team or a great football nation is to work hard and put your house in order to make sure that you get results. That is all it takes to be a good team anywhere in the world.
“Football is one of the keys to ensuring that the teams and the country are united,” he added.
