Alidu Seidu ruled out for the rest of the season due to ACL injury

-

Ghana and Stade Rennais F.C. defender Alidu Seidu faces a significant challenge after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Rennes’ Ligue 1 clash with Lille on Sunday.

The injury, which occurred in the 18th minute of the match, forced the 24-year-old off the field in tears.

Rennes confirmed the diagnosis on Monday but refrained from providing a detailed recovery timeline.

ACL injuries, however, typically require several months of rehabilitation, effectively ruling Seidu out for the remainder of the season.

This development deals a heavy blow to Rennes, who are struggling under new coach Jorge Sampaoli.

The team sits precariously at 15th in the Ligue 1 standings, just one point above the relegation zone. This marks Rennes’ worst points tally at this stage of the season since 2002.

Seidu has been a key figure for both Rennes and the Ghanaian national team, known for his versatility and defensive prowess.

His absence is expected to deepen the challenges for Rennes as they fight to salvage their season.

The club has yet to announce a plan to fill the void left by Seidu’s injury, but fans and teammates have rallied to show their support, sending well-wishes to the defender as he begins his recovery journey.
