President Nana Akufo-Addo says the construction of the new Oil and Gas Services Terminal is the realization of a vision that cements Ghana’s position as a beacon of economic resilience.
He stated that the Terminal is a critical gateway offering a one-stop-shop supply of essential resources for offshore activities and will further strengthen Ghana’s position in oil and gas sector operations.
At the commissioning of the facility at the Port of Takoradi, President Akufo-Addo described the 31 Times Football Park Services Terminal as a “bold testament” to the nation’s economic progress while positioning Ghana as a hub in the upstream business.
He said, “This critical investment in the sector affirms our commitment to enhancing economic opportunities for all Ghanaians.”
The Terminal, a game-changer in the operations at the Port of Takoradi, began in October 2022 by the GPHA with funding from the government.
The $100,007,246.86 project was executed by China Harbour Engineering Company, with GTYD Group Limited serving as the consultants.
The project involved the reclamation of 20 hectares of sealand, dredging of 752,045 m³, ground improvement, storage yard and concrete roads, water supply, drains, sewage, pipe network, power, and communication ducts.
The President noted that the Port upgrade would further enhance competitiveness, bring more integration in the Sub-Region, and promote economic development.
Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transport, expressed gratitude to the President for enabling the Ministry to undertake numerous infrastructure projects across various sectors.
He expressed hope that the new Terminal, alongside the existing facilities at the Port of Takoradi, would boost maritime business in the region.
Mr. Michael Luguje, the Director General of GPHA, stated that the vision of transforming the Port from a traditional export point has been realized.
He emphasized that the Port of Takoradi has now become more competitive, with the ability to handle major cargo containers.
Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, described the completion of the project as a remarkable achievement in port operations and economic growth.
He thanked the President for creating an enabling environment for the oil and gas sector to thrive.
The Western Regional Minister called for safe operations, efficiency, and environmental sustainability as key priorities as the Port grows and transforms lives.
The Terminal features a quay wall of 550 meters and a draft of 10 meters deep, along with a 200,000 m² serviced land area for siting oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops, and storage facilities, among others.
The project aims to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform within the Port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations.
