The Black Queens of Ghana are set to face defending champions South Africa in the group stage of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The draw for the 15th edition of the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON was conducted on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Salé, Morocco.
Ghana, making a comeback after missing the last two tournaments, will compete in Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.
Record titleholders Nigeria were placed in Group B with Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, while hosts and 2022 finalists Morocco will battle Zambia, Senegal, and DR Congo in Group A.
The tournament’s format ensures that the top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals, along with the two best third-placed teams.
Ghana will aim to secure a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification for the first time in 18 years, needing at least a semifinal finish to guarantee a spot.
The 2024 WAFCON will take place from July 5 to 26, 2025.
