City and Spurs will meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, with Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou searching for a first win against the Manchester club.
“I will try to explain it this way, that is probably the worst experience I’ve had as a football manager in a game because once I realised that I got it wrong in terms of what the atmosphere was going to be like and what people felt,” said the Australian tactician in regards to his last clash with City back in May.
City’s Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, has admitted an admiration for Postecoglou and his aggressive style: “In a short time, even the games they didn’t win lately, I’m impressed with how good they do in many things – how many chances they create, how aggressive they are in all departments.”
Saturday will open in the early afternoon with Leicester City hosting Chelsea at the King Power Stadium, while Arsenal hosting Nottingham Forest at the Emirates is the key late-afternoon kick-off, as the Gunners chase three points in their hunt to bring themselves back into the title race.
“We want to win every game but sometimes things do happen that you can’t control and you have to find a way to win the contest,” said Arsenal’s Ghanaian star Thomas Partey.
“It’s up to us to react positively – this is why we are here. We are professionals, we demand a lot from each other so the next step is to fight back.”
Sunday features Liverpool chasing three points on the road when they face strugglers Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, before Ipswich Town host Manchester United – with Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna hoping to put one over the club where he worked as a youth and assistant coach from 2016 to 2021.
“Obviously I have history with Manchester United, but my only focus is on helping Ipswich Town have the best chance of winning,” said McKenna.
The round closes on Monday evening with Newcastle United playing host to West Ham United. These two teams produced thrilling Premier League clashes last season: 2-2 at the London Stadium and a 4-3 home win for the Magpies in the return game at St James Park.
