Black Stars: GFA to decide on Otto Addo’s future next Wednesday

-

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the Executive Council (ExCo) will make a decision regarding Otto Addo’s future as head coach of the Black Stars next Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

This follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 21 years. Under Addo’s leadership, the Black Stars failed to secure a single victory in six qualifying matches, recording three losses and three draws. They finished at the bottom of Group F, which included Niger, Sudan, and Angola.

The GFA has confirmed that Otto Addo will meet with the ExCo to present a technical report detailing the reasons behind the team’s poor performance in the qualifiers. The discussion will also cover the overall performance of the technical team since Addo’s appointment.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 21, the GFA said:

“The Executive Council will meet the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Mr. Otto Addo, on the 27th of November, 2024, to discuss his technical report on the just-ended AFCON qualifiers and the overall performance of the technical team since assuming duty earlier this year.”

Otto Addo, who succeeded Chris Hughton in March 2024, signed a 34-month contract with an option for an additional 24 months. Despite the team’s recent struggles, his future remains a topic of debate.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will shift their focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, starting in March 2025, with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
