Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor, Samuel Pyne, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their alleged election rigging plot in the Ashanti region.
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Secretary has said the allegations are a figment of the NDC’s own imagination.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the NDC alleged that President Akufo-Addo is plotting to rig the December 7 election in favor of the NPP.
The National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, claimed Akufo-Addo has tasked the General Officer Commanding Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Brigadier General Michael Opoku, to execute the plan.
Reacting to this, Mr. Pyne, in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, labeled the allegations as absurd.
According to him, the allegations are mere attempts to cause fear and panic, stating that they also signify the NDC’s sense of defeat in the upcoming election.
“If they [NDC] are planning to cause panic and fear in the Ashanti region, then they are wrong; they should rethink. They can take it from me that it won’t happen,” he forewarned.
He cautioned that the security agencies and heads are on high alert and will deal with anybody who threatens or causes mayhem before, during, and after the election.
“The security services are ready to ensure peace and a smooth process. Anyone who causes trouble will be dealt with ruthlessly.”
“The NPP, as a political party, will not sit and watch anyone derail our victory in the election. We won’t allow that to happen, so we will deal with any troublemaker with recourse to the appropriate authority. We will not sit aloof,” he stated.
