524 members of the African Diaspora Community were officially granted Ghanaian citizenship at an event which occurred at the Accra International Conference Center,
This marks the third such event under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, further strengthening the bond between Ghana and its global diaspora.
The initiative, which began with the “Year of Return” in 2019, commemorates 400 years since the first enslaved Africans were transported to the Americas.
President Akufo-Addo described the event as a historic milestone in reconnecting the African diaspora with their ancestral roots, urging the new citizens to leverage their skills and expertise to contribute to Ghana’s development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Interior Minister Henry Quartey assured the new citizens that Ghana would provide them a warm and supportive home.
Meanwhile, Rabbi Hilenhi, the Executive Secretary of the African Diaspora Community, hailed the initiative as a triumph, remarking that these individuals had achieved a dream long held by icons like Bob Marley and Marcus Garvey.
The event stands as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to embracing its diaspora and fostering unity among Africans worldwide.
