Former Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston has voiced his support for under-fire Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, urging patience despite growing calls for his dismissal.
Addo, 47, has faced intense criticism after Ghana failed to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Black Stars drew 1-1 with Angola in Luanda and suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Niger, finishing bottom of Group F with just three points and no wins.
In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston described a potential coaching change as a “disaster,” arguing that Addo deserves the opportunity to lead the team through the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
“For me, at the moment, we shouldn’t change anything,” Kingston said. “I think Otto is even disappointed in himself. And I believe by now he’s trying to ask himself questions about what really happened and what he can do to improve it.”
Kingston, who understands the challenges of coaching at the highest level, emphasized the importance of stability in the technical setup.
“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring in new faces, it will be a disaster,” he stated.
Ghana is currently tied at the top of their World Cup qualifying group, with six matches remaining. Kingston believes Addo should be given the chance to complete the campaign, suggesting there is still hope for success.
“I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers – who knows? Maybe he can qualify. And then after that, we make a decision as a country. So we should give him another opportunity.”
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council is set to meet on Wednesday to review the Black Stars’ performance, a discussion that could determine Addo’s future as head coach.
