General Superintendent of Assemblies of God makes clarion call to members

The Assemblies of God Church Ghana has unveiled its 2025 theme, “Pray Without Ceasing for Supernatural Manifestations,” with a call on its members and leaders to engage in daily prayer to strengthen their spiritual lives and relationship with God.

The theme is drawn from 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

The General Superintendent, Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam, announced this during a combined Executive Presbytery (EP) and Key Leaders Capacity-Building and Prayer Retreat at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The event brought together over 260 influential members of Assemblies of God, including the General Secretary, 58 Executive Presbytery members with their spouses, district pastors, and leaders of AG agencies.

During his address, Rev. Wengam emphasized the need for continuous prayer as a foundational aspect of the church’s spiritual life. He urged members and leaders to engage in daily, heartfelt prayers.

“When we don’t pray as leaders, we kill the spirit of the church, and we eventually lose members,” he said.

Rev. Wengam explained that prayer should not be seen as an occasional activity or mere duty but as an essential, ongoing practice that strengthens the believer’s relationship with God.

“Prayer is a daily necessity, the air we breathe. It’s a vital human need that provokes grace, opens the heavens, and brings the refilling of the Holy Spirit,” he noted.

He further explained that prayer activates spiritual power, releases divine glory, and breaks barriers such as addictions and limitations.

Rev. Wengam urged Assemblies of God pastors, district leaders, and members to align with the 2025 theme by integrating it into their personal and communal worship. He reminded the church’s leadership of their responsibility to model continuous prayer, calling on them to inspire and guide their congregations to embrace the theme wholeheartedly.

The General Superintendent indicated that as the church embarks on a journey to achieve its 2025 theme, it serves as both a call and a commitment for Assemblies of God members to deepen their prayer lives and prepare for a year of renewed spiritual vitality and breakthroughs.

The 2025 theme was chosen after extensive prayer and consultation aimed at fostering a culture of constant prayer throughout Assemblies of God congregations in Ghana. It emphasizes the transformative power of prayer, which is believed to activate angelic intervention, bring forth God’s glory, and enable the church to overcome challenges.

To achieve these aims, the theme focuses on four key areas:

  1. Prayer for Churches: Strengthening the foundation of all Assemblies of God churches through dedicated and consistent prayer.
  2. Fasting and Prayer: Instituting regular periods of fasting and prayer to deepen spiritual commitment.
  3. Prayer for the Harvest of Souls: Interceding for revival and the salvation of new souls.
  4. Prayer for Supernatural Manifestation: Seeking God’s presence and power to perform miraculous signs and wonders.
