Agyemang-Badu: Black Stars’ struggles go beyond coaching

-

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has stated that the challenges facing the Black Stars cannot be solely attributed to coaching.

His comments come in the wake of Ghana’s failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco.

The team’s hopes were dashed after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Matchday Five at the Estádio 11 de Novembro. The result leaves Ghana in fourth place in Group F, with only three points from five games.

In an interview, the FIFA U-20 World Cup winner refrained from placing the blame entirely on the technical team.

Agyemang-Badu noted that five different coaches have managed the team under Kurt Okraku’s leadership as President of the Ghana Football Association, yet the team’s struggles persist.

“Obviously, there are problems with the technical team, and as much as the coach is not doing so well, the entire problem cannot solely be attributed to the coach,” he told Akoma FM.

“If we’ve had five different coaches handling the team and we are still struggling, do you think the coach is really the problem? If we make that assumption, then we are not being honest with ourselves,” he added.

Ghana will conclude their qualification campaign with a home game against Niger on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
