How did we get here? – Sammi Awuku questions Asiedu Nketia’s directive to NDC MPs to boycott parliament [Video]

New Patriotic Party(NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Akuapem-North, Sammi Awuku, has expressed disappointment in the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

This follows Asiedu Nketia’s directive to the party’s Members of Parliament(MPs) to boycott any emergency parliamentary recall.

Addressing supporters in the Western Region on Saturday, November 16, General Mosquito as he is popularly known claimed that with the 2024 general elections approaching, the majority caucus lacks legitimate reasons for reconvening Parliament and is pursuing questionable objectives.

“Let no NDC MP step foot in Parliament. If they like, they can go and burn the sea. There’s no work in Parliament that can be described as an emergency. This is just an avenue for them to continue the rampant corruption they’ve engaged in for the past eight years,” he said.

In response to this, Mr Awuku, who is also the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem described the comment as very worrying coming from a party chairman.

“How did we get here? If God forbid, the NDC wins power and the NPP has the majority of MPs in Parliament, what will his reaction be?” If your party wins power and the NPP is in the majority, how do you expect them to treat you?” he asked.

In his view, such remarks could hinder the working relationship between parties.

He added that while they may disagree with the decision of the court, it’s important to respect and accept it.

Mr Awuku stressed that disrupting the business of Parliament could have long-term negative consequences for the country and the political environment.
