Black Stars arrive in Accra after 2025 AFCON qualification failure

-

The Black Stars of Ghana arrived in Accra on Saturday after their 1-1 draw against Angola in their penultimate 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday night.

Otto Addo’s team is set to regroup for their final Group F match against Niger, scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Ghana entered the match against Angola needing a win to stay in contention for qualification, compounded by a surprising 4-0 victory by Niger over Sudan, which kept the group’s dynamics unpredictable. Despite their efforts, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

With five games played, Ghana sits at the bottom of Group F with just three points—10 points behind group leaders Angola, five behind Sudan, and one point adrift of Niger in third place.

The Black Stars will hold their final training session later today in preparation for the Niger clash.

However, with qualification now mathematically out of reach, the match has no bearing on their campaign.

This result marks a significant disappointment for Ghana, as they fail to qualify for the AFCON tournament for the first time in 21 years.

The 2025 edition will be held in Morocco.
