We detected errors in Ahafo, Volta ballot printing ourselves, not NDC – EC

Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has refuted claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) drew the Commission’s attention to anomalies in the Ahafo and Volta ballot printing.

According to him, the errors were identified by the Commission’s own internal auditors.

This follows remarks by the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, who stated that the anomalies would have gone unnoticed if the party had not raised the alarm.

However, Dr. Bossman insisted that the opposition party cannot take credit for the discovery.

“We got the information from our own internal auditors who went around, along with our security personnel. The Electoral Commission acted based on feedback from our offices on the ground. We didn’t receive any formal or informal complaint from the NDC.

“It was the EC’s decision, after the printing house assured us they could provide all the serial numbers correctly, but our team informed us there were still gaps. To ensure ballot integrity, we decided to assign the Volta Region to two of our distinguished printers. So, if Dr. Tanko believes the NDC alerted us before we acted, there is no evidence to support that,” he stated.

He said this on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 16.

Dr. Bossman also noted that reprinting is underway as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
