The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Databank Ghana, Kojo Addae-Mensah, has called for Black Stars coach Otto Addo to step down following Ghana’s failure to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking on GTV Sports Plus, Addae-Mensah expressed his disappointment and urged Otto Addo to step aside.

“I think Otto Addo came in with good intentions to help the team but it has not worked and in life, we don’t get everything right but for the fact that he has failed to qualify for the AFCON, I think Otto Addo must lay down his tools and leave,” he said.

Ghana’s hopes of participating in next year’s tournament in Morocco were dashed after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday night at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

The Black Stars needed a victory to remain in contention after Niger’s dominant win over Sudan on Thursday.

Despite a stunning free-kick goal by Jordan Ayew in the first half, Angola’s Zini levelled the score in the second half, leaving Ghana with just three points from five games.

The result leaves the Black Stars at the bottom of Group F, effectively ending their qualification campaign.

With qualification now out of reach, Ghana’s final Group F match against Niger on Monday, November 18, at the Accra Sports Stadium has become a mere formality.

The game will be played for pride, as it will not affect the Black Stars’ standings in the qualifiers.
