Gospel musician Empress Gifty has emphasized the importance of professional marketing and sponsorship management in building a successful music career.
Speaking with host Mike 2 on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall show, she shared lessons she has learned over the years about branding and the business side of the industry.
“I didn’t understand sponsorships at first… I have learned that there are people who know how to write for sponsorships… sometimes we think the sponsors are wicked, but a good marketer will give you the results. In your team, you need a marketer, someone that can sell your brand.”
Meanwhile, Empress Gifty highlighted the evolving nature of the gospel music industry, stressing the need to adapt to modern strategies for social media engagement and networking.
“Now we follow directors, unlike before. We’ve come to understand that there are many ways to get results on social media. You have to go in for a professional marketer,” she said.
“What they do is that they know most of the people in these companies. If you want to always do things on your own, you will suffer.”
The singer also revealed that her team now includes individuals who monitor her public statements and advise her when to retract controversial comments, helping her maintain a positive image.
“Our job becomes difficult for some people to handle us… we have to move forward more than that,” she explained, adding that pastors often invest significantly in foreign musicians while neglecting local talent.
“Pastors are paying Nigerians huge sums, but we overlook all these things,” she noted, urging the industry to take steps toward more professional and collaborative practices.
Empress Gifty’s remarks shed light on the challenges gospel musicians face and the importance of professional marketing to thrive in a competitive industry.
