Yendi stretch of Eastern Corridor road to be named after Alhaji Aliu Mahama

The Yendi Municipal Assembly, in consultation with the Dabon community, has decided to honor the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama by naming one of the Yendi stretches of the Eastern Corridor Road after him.

According to the Assembly, this gesture will honor Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s legacy and his contributions to the northern region and Ghana as a whole.

In an exclusive interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, the late Vice-President’s son, Farouk Aliu Mahama, expressed immense pride and gratitude for the recognition.

Mr. Mahama stated that it was an honor to have the Yendi stretch named after his late father. He also mentioned that he felt privileged to have been part of the team, including President Akufo-Addo and the Vice President, during the groundbreaking ceremony for that stretch.

He further noted that, under the government’s investment in road infrastructure, Yendi is now well-positioned to attain city status.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that this investment in Yendi shows the government’s commitment to incorporating Yendi among Ghana’s cities.

He added that his late father was the first Muslim Vice President from Yendi and the first Dagomba from Dagbon to hold the position, making it highly appropriate to name the road stretch in his honor.

“Every successful politician—not only my late father—from the First Republic to the Fourth Republic has indeed shown that if you work hard for your people, recognition will follow,” he said.
