The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections.
He cited concerns over the inclusion of the late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor.
Mr. Akpaloo argues that featuring Akua Donkor’s image on the ballot could influence the election’s outcome.
He suggests that if the GFP had nominated a new candidate, the EC would have reprinted the ballots to reflect the update.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 13, Mr. Akpaloo stressed that reprinting the ballots would protect the election’s integrity and prevent confusion among voters.
“Having Akua Donkor’s image on the ballot will cause issues nationwide,” he said.
“People might vote for her despite her passing. How will these votes be counted? Are we going to disregard votes cast for her, or will they factor into the percentages?”
“We don’t want a situation where a candidate disputes the results based on these percentages. We urge the EC to reprint the ballots without Akua Donkor’s image to avoid this potential conflict,” he added.
