2024 Polls: We’ll recruit health volunteers for early disease detection – Mahama

-

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced plans to recruit community health volunteers nationwide to provide door-to-door health monitoring and support for residents.

Mahama explained that the initiative aims to identify and address minor health issues early, preventing them from developing into more serious conditions.

“We will have community health volunteers in every community who will go house-to-house, engaging people about their health and identifying potential health issues, such as breast cancer or cervical cancer, so they can be quickly referred to the nearest health facility,” Mahama said.

The program aims to expand healthcare access and reduce the incidence of minor illnesses escalating into severe, costly conditions.

Additionally, Mahama revealed plans for the Ghana Medical Care Trust, also known as “Mahama Cares,” a fund dedicated to supporting the treatment and management of chronic diseases, including kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and sickle cell anemia.

Meanwhile, Mahama is set to meet with chiefs and supporters in the Western Region as part of his campaign, while his running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will be touring the North East and Savannah regions.
