Two individuals have been injured following a heated exchange and scuffle at the launch of the Gomoa Lome festival in the Central Region.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital.

The chaos reportedly began when Gomoa Central Independent Parliamentary Candidate Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, allegedly pulled a pistol during the event.

Angry chiefs of Gomoa Lome, speaking to Adom News, claimed that A Plus and his bodyguards assaulted several residents, while some were allegedly shocked with electric stun devices.

The traditional authorities stated that all parliamentary candidates in Gomoa Central—Kwame Dean Yawson of the NDC, Kwame A Plus, and Naana Eyiah Quansah of the NPP, who is also the Deputy Interior Minister—were invited to the fundraising event. The proceeds were intended to help build nurses’ quarters for health workers in the area.

According to the chiefs, each candidate was given a specific time to speak at the event to avoid confusion, but A Plus allegedly violated this arrangement and showed up at the same time as Naana Eyiah, the incumbent MP.

Speaking at a press conference in Gomoa Lome, Frank Okyere, a member of the planning committee, stated that when A Plus arrived, his supporters began insulting the MP for failing to construct the road in the area.

The situation escalated when A Plus allegedly pulled out a pistol and attempted to fire shots, while his bodyguards, wielding cutlasses, began assaulting some residents.

Following the incident, Okyere called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to increase security in Gomoa Central in light of the upcoming election. He expressed concern that there were indications some individuals were planning to cause trouble.

The Abusupanin of Gomoa Lome, Nana Kojo Duodu, who spoke on behalf of the Chief of Gomoa Lome, called on A Plus to publicly apologize for suggesting that the chiefs were not interested in development, but only focused on rice and oil.

Nana Duodu added that A Plus appears to be trying to create chaos in Gomoa ahead of the upcoming general election and has called on security agencies to be on high alert.

However, a member of A Plus’ campaign team, David Siripi, has denied the allegations leveled against their candidate.
