Effutu Member of Parliament (MP), Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus remains the majority side in the House and cannot occupy the seats of the Minority.
According to him, the Supreme Court has stayed execution on the declaration of four seats as vacant and expects the House to return to normalcy.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin has affirmed that the NPP caucus is simply abiding by the Supreme Court order, based on an interpretation of Article 97 under the current circumstances.
Addressing journalists after a court hearing on Monday, November 11, the lawmaker stated that accepting a Minority position would be a bad omen and could have repercussions on the upcoming December 7 election.
“I should go and sit on the Minority seat? Spiritually, it’s not even good. We have three weeks to elections. I should go and sit in the Minority. Is that my seat? I won’t do it. I will never do it.”
“That’s not my rightful place. I should go to the Minority side and spiritually make myself a Minority and bind my colleagues? No, we won’t do that. No NPP person will do that,” he stated.
