The Mpraeso District Court, presided over by Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, has remanded 26 people into police custody over the violent clashes that occurred in Abetifi on Thursday.
The group includes 25 men and one woman, who are expected to reappear on November 14, 2024.
The clash ensued after a group of armed men, led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia, stormed the Abetifi Palace to destool Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, who is currently acting as the President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.
The men, initially thought by residents to be National Security operatives, escorted her to the Abetifi Palace, where they detained Asiedu Agyemang III.
Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men then forced Akyemfour Agyemang III to an older palace nearby, where she performed some traditional rites aimed at destooling him, including the slaughtering of a sheep as part of the ritual.
Incensed by the act, a group of youth armed with machetes initiated a reprisal attack, which would have escalated but for the timely intervention of the police.
Six people, however, sustained cutlass injuries.
