Health Services Workers issue ultimatum to gov’t over stalled agreement negotiations

-

The Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) of TUC (Ghana) has issued a firm ultimatum to the government, demanding the swift resolution of stalled negotiations regarding their collective agreement.

Addressing the media on pressing issues faced by its members, the HSWU leadership expressed frustration over prolonged delays in the negotiation process, warning of potential actions should their demands go unmet.

The collective agreement between the HSWU and health facilities under the Ministry of Health was scheduled for review in November 2023.

Following legal protocols, the Union submitted proposals to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. Negotiations began in May 2024, yet nearly six months later, progress has stalled despite numerous meetings with government representatives.

HSWU leadership stated that their members’ patience has “run out” and set a clear deadline for Monday, November 11, 2024, for all outstanding issues to be resolved. They stressed the urgent need for the agreement’s implementation, citing the current economic challenges faced by health workers.

The Union’s statement urged its members to remain calm and stand united, assuring them that the leadership is committed to their welfare.
