Oti NADMO holds pre-election functional simulation exercise

In a proactive move to enhance disaster management and response capacities ahead of the upcoming elections, the Oti Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has organized a pre-election functional simulation exercise.

This initiative aims to prepare stakeholders for potential emergencies that may arise during the electoral process, ensuring a smooth and secure environment for voters.

The exercise, held at the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) in Dambai, brought together various stakeholders, including security agencies, the Ghana Health Service, Ambulance, the Information Services Department (ISD), and other relevant groups.

During the simulation, participants engaged in various scenarios that could occur on Election Day, such as crowd management, emergency medical response, and communication breakdown.

Speaking to Adom News, NADMO Director Edward Kwaku Kumah underscored the importance of such simulation exercises in fostering collaboration and coordination among different agencies.

According to him, elections can sometimes lead to unforeseen challenges, including natural disasters or civil disturbances.

He noted that their goal is to ensure that all relevant parties are well-prepared to respond effectively.

By practicing these scenarios, the teams were able to identify gaps in their response strategies and develop actionable plans to address them.

The Oti NADMO Director also highlighted the significance of community involvement in disaster preparedness.

He encouraged citizens to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities.

“A well-informed public is our first line of defense against potential disruptions,” he added.

The Oti Regional Minister, DSP Rtd Daniel Machator, expressed his support for NADMO’s initiative.

He said that as the nation gears up for the elections, the pre-election functional simulation exercise serves as a vital reminder of the importance of preparedness.

By equipping stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Oti Region is taking significant steps toward ensuring that the upcoming elections are conducted smoothly and without incident, he said.
