The Sekondi High Court, led by Justice George K. Gyan-Kontoh, has postponed hearing an application from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to lift the injunction on its Amenfi Central Parliamentary candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, and dismiss her disqualification.
The case is now set for Monday, November 11, 2024.
The adjournment follows a request from Edudzie Tamakloe, lead counsel for Joana Gyan Cudjoe, who urged the court to expedite the hearing of her disqualification.
Tamakloe argued that further delays could prevent Ms. Cudjoe from participating in the upcoming December 7 parliamentary election.
Justice Gyan-Kontoh, while granting the plea to consider the substantive case, encouraged both parties to attempt an out-of-court settlement before the next court date.
Supporters of Joana Gyan Cudjoe, who attended the hearing, also called for a swift resolution, emphasizing the need for her to compete in the December 7 election.
“We want the court to lift the injunction so the EC allows us to contest. We don’t want to sit on the sidelines with only a month left before the election,” one supporter said.
