America has shown us the way, let’s bring back Mahama – NDC urges Ghanaians

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has quickly seized on the outcome of the United States’ election, drawing comparisons with Ghana’s upcoming December polls and urging voters to bring former President John Mahama back to office.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the Deputy Director of Elections in charge of IT, Dr. Rashid Tanko, described the outcome of the U.S. election as “refreshing” for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and called on Ghanaians to vote for the party in the upcoming elections.

He noted that the U.S. election was largely driven by economic concerns, highlighting the struggles under the current administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He argued that Americans chose to bring back Donald Trump to address the country’s economic challenges.

“The economic potholes in America were too much; it’s just like what we are going through in Ghana,” he stated.

Dr. Tanko drew parallels between the U.S. situation and Ghana’s, pointing out that Ghana is also facing significant economic difficulties. He asserted that the government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia should be replaced by a John Mahama and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang administration to restore the country’s economy.

“In Ghana, let’s compare the same economic challenges we are facing. Americans rejected their government over their economic problems, so do you think Ghanaians will maintain a government in a similar situation?” he asked.

“We are very clear in our minds, and we have told Ghanaians that if you want us to be respected in the field of international diplomacy, you need to vote for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama,” he emphasized.

Dr. Tanko concluded, “Americans have gone back to Trump, so what will stop you from bringing back John Mahama to continue what he was doing and to address the economic downturn the country is facing? The Americans have shown us the way.”
