Bagbin to address media on parliamentary issues on Wednesday

-

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to hold a media briefing to address recent developments in Parliament as well as broader issues impacting Ghana’s democratic landscape.

This engagement will serve as a platform to discuss pressing matters affecting Ghana’s parliamentary democracy, particularly in light of recent events that have resulted in notable political developments.

The media address is scheduled for Wednesday, 6th November 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Justice D.F. Annan Auditorium, Job 600, Parliament House.

All media representatives are invited to attend, as Speaker Bagbin is expected to provide insights and responses to some of the most critical issues facing the nation’s democracy today.

The presser is in the wake of a Supreme Court decision denying his application to stay the enforcement of a ruling concerning four vacant parliamentary seats.

The ruling, which has stirred political debate, upheld that these seats; declared vacant by the Speaker earlier this year, must remain unfilled pending further developments.

The Speaker’s declaration of the seats as vacant had triggered a series of legal challenges, culminating in the recent ruling that underscores a contentious intersection between parliamentary authority and judicial oversight.

Bagbin’s forthcoming address is anticipated to clarify the parliamentary stance on these matters and provide an outline of the steps Parliament may consider moving forward.
