Dumsor: Akufo-Addo’s govt concealing power crisis – Mahama

-

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, has accused the government of attempting to shift responsibility for the current power crisis onto a potential future NDC administration if his party wins the upcoming election.

Mahama claimed the government is deliberately withholding a load-shedding timetable to conceal the full scale of the country’s electricity problems. He attributes the ongoing disruptions to the recent exit of Sunon Asogli from the power supply sector, which he says has exacerbated the crisis.

Mahama further alleged that the current administration intends to leave behind an estimated $2 billion energy sector debt for the next government, which would restrict future solutions and compound the sector’s issues.

Speaking to supporters in Ehiamankyene, in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region, Mahama remarked, “We don’t have a stable plant because Sunon Asogli shut down due to unpaid debts owed by the government. Dumsor is back, and this government refuses to implement a load-shedding timetable as we did previously for fear of backlash.”

He continued, “They know the NDC is likely to come to power, so they are trying to push this burden onto us. They’re also planning to hand over around $2 billion in debt in the energy sector to the next NDC administration.”

Mahama expressed confidence that the NDC would secure a significant victory in the Greater Accra Region, projecting a margin of 300,000 votes in the December 7 elections.

“We aim to increase our vote count in the Volta and Oti regions, which will, in turn, strengthen our position in Greater Accra. We won Greater Accra last time, and now we need to widen that margin to about 300,000 votes,” he said. “The NPP received about 100,000 votes in Volta last time, while we got 800,000. We need to reduce their numbers there. I don’t believe the NPP will get 300,000 votes in Volta.”

Mahama is expected to wrap up his tour of the Oti Region, while his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is set to begin a two-day campaign tour of the Volta Region.
