Zanetor Rawlings speaks on Adabraka daylight robbery

The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, has condemned Saturday’s (November 2, 2024) armed robbery at the Adabraka Market, where four masked and heavily armed men attacked a man in a red Toyota Corolla, stealing large sums of cash in broad daylight.

The robbers fired multiple gunshots to disperse bystanders before loading sacks of money into a getaway vehicle and fleeing the scene. The brazen attack has left Adabraka residents in shock and raised concerns about security in the area as Ghana’s general elections approach.

“Unfortunately, this is the second time within the last four months that something of this nature has happened, and it’s very worrying,” Dr. Rawlings stated at the crime scene. “First of all, how are people gaining access to these types of weapons and having the courage to do this in the middle of the city? We have elections in less than 36 days, so it raises concerns about the safety of constituents.”

Dr. Rawlings called on the Ghana Police Service, as well as the Ministries of Interior and National Security, to take urgent steps to protect citizens, highlighting the alarming use of illegal firearms.

“I have engaged the police since I got here, but I believe this is something that has to be investigated at the highest level. It is not just about the police but also about the Minister of Interior and the Ministry of National Security,” she urged.

“If you look at the types of weapons these individuals are carrying, it raises questions about the use of certain types of weapons in the system that are not legal.”

Assuring her constituents of her commitment to addressing the security issues, Dr. Rawlings emphasized her role as Deputy Ranking Member on the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence, pledging to use her position to advocate for measures to curb the growing threat. “I intend to certainly pursue this to see how we can address it,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the robbers and assured the public that the suspects will be apprehended and face justice.
