Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his pride in representing his country, calling it an “honor” and a “dream come true.”
The talented striker made his debut for the Ghana national team on June 1, 2022, in a resounding 3-0 victory over Madagascar during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
In a candid interview with BBC’s Football Focus, Semenyo shared that his first call-up to the Black Stars was an emotional moment for both him and his family.
“My mum was crying on the phone. Dad doesn’t really jump up too much, but he was so excited,” he recalled. “It’s an honor to play for Ghana. It’s just a dream come true.”
Though born in England, Semenyo’s Ghanaian roots have always been close to his heart. He spoke of his love for reconnecting with family and friends in Ghana, embracing the country’s vibrant football culture whenever he’s with the Black Stars.
“I love going back to our home country and seeing family, seeing friends as well. They’re so eager about football,” he said, reflecting on Ghana’s deep passion for the sport.
Since his debut, Semenyo has made over 20 appearances for the Black Stars and has established himself as a key player for the team.
Semenyo is expected to join the Ghana squad for the final rounds of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, scheduled for later this month.
