The Bolgatanga Traditional Council has appealed to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and the government to reconsider the recent closure of seven courts in the Upper East Region.
The Council expressed concern over the potential impact on access to justice in the region.
They have therefore called on authorities to find alternative solutions to protect staff while keeping the courts operational.
“The Traditional Council is also appealing to the government and the Chief Justice to reconsider their decision and reopen the courts and reinforce the necessary security,” a portion of the statement read.
They also appealed to the feuding factions to allow peace to prevail.
On October 29, the Chief Justice ordered the closure of the courts due to renewed chieftaincy clashes, which have claimed several lives and left some residents injured.
The closed courts include the High Court of Bolgatanga, Circuit Court of Bolgatanga, District Court of Bolgatanga, District Court of Zuarungu, District Court of Zebilla, District Court of Garu, and District Court of Bongo.
Chief Justice Torkornoo explained that the closure is intended to safeguard judicial personnel and maintain the justice system’s integrity in areas affected by the unrest.
